Big Match Preview: Braehead and Belfast

Welcome everybody to your preview of the next batch of Steelers games.

Another busy weekend of action awaits the Steelers as they hope to build on their 6-1 victory over the visiting Milton Keynes Lightning last Sunday. It begins tomorrow, a Friday night game, with a road trip north of the border to lock horns with the following:

Yes it's our purple friends, the Clan. But you can be rest assured that there will be no friendliness shown on the ice when the puck drops. Both sides have had an upside down season so far, yet the Clan have recently shown a bit of form which has seen them turn a bit of a corner. Steelers will be wary of this fact, and the fact that Clan can really turn it on when they are in the mood. It certainly promises to be a baptism of fire for new defenceman Miika Franssila who joined the Club yesterday.

Zack Fitzgerald will be still missing for the Steelers, and a return to his old club. His absence will be covered under the Deveaux ban which still has three games left to run. Clan will also be missing a key player in former NHLer Ryan Poultny, but Tyler Scofield will be certainly one to watch out for as will be the recently returned Adam Brace. It is never an easy game in Renfrewshire, and this will be no exception. A close and tight affair is on the cards.

After a day's rest, the boys are back in action on Sunday tea time and it's a Erhardt Conference game against the following team:

Yes it's the first game between the Steelers and the Giants since the infamous game in October which was of course notable for the Fretter-Goulakos incident. However, on Sunday, the game could be less contentious as the afore mentioned Giants defenceman is suspended following an incident when the Giants played in Guildford last Sunday. That aside the Giants do have a number of other players willing to mix it up if needed.

Steelers will be hoping to improve on their pathetic, it has to be said it is, inter-Conference record which currently stands at 4 points from 8 games played. Certainly it does show that the cross-conference games have basically underpinned the Steelers this season and is the reason why the Steelers are where they are in the actual league standings. It has to improve and no better time to do so this Sunday. Lose the game, and an 11th one overall, and you have to seriously put question marks against those title ambitions which some people still cling to.

My predictions? Steelers to edge past the Clan 2-1 after overtime tomorrow, and to get revenge over the Giants: the visitors will be slain 4-2 with an empty netter proving decisive.
