Big Match Preview: Nottingham and Milton Keynes

Better later than not at all, here's your preview of this weekend's Steelers hockey action.

Currently on a two game winning streak, and in third place in the standings, Steelers face another testing weekend of hockey action. They start tonight (Saturday) against this little known team:

Yes it's those Bears from down the M1, and this is going to be a tough one as our hosts have been the most consistent team in my eyes this season so far. This will need the performance of the season from Paul Thompson's men if they are to stop the home team. The Panthers have match winners all over the ice from solid goaltending (whether that be Galbraith or Garnett), an exciting import defenceman in Yann Sauvé, and scoring talent a plenty. We will really need to be at our best to deny them a home win but as Fife proved recently, this is not an impossible task. We have the ability, we just need to execute the perfect road game to take the two points.

I would even take a point from an overtime/penalty shot loss to be honest.

After the exertions of Nottingham, Steelers come back home on home ice for Sunday teatime hockey as they lock horns with this particular team:

It's the team with the weird logo, Milton Keynes Lightning. Lightning will be obviously buoyed by the fact that they beat the Steelers 7-2 last Saturday night. However, Sunday is a new hockey game and this time in the confines of the House Of Steel. Steelers know they can ill afford to give the Lightning chances because MK will take them with the fast skating team that they have assembled. A home win is absolutely essential if the Steelers don't want to lose any ground on those above them.

My predictions? Panthers to take the win against us on Saturday, winning 3-2 in overtime. As for Sunday, it will be redemption for the Steelers against the Lightning as the home side will skate to a hard fought 4-1 win.
