5 Things We Learnt This Weekend - Deep Down n' Dirty

This week I'm going to include Wednesday's game against Hull, as I don't feel we learnt enough from that one game to form an entire article.

Fortunately, this weekend saw two similar games come up as we confirmed our status as winners of Challenge Cup group B.

1. We will play the Dundee Stars in the 1/4 finals.
Let's hope they don't pick up before then. Great effort from the boys on winning the group. It's also nice to get the group games out of the way - I seem to think our last group game last season was at the end of November. Now to focus on the bread and butter.

2. We have lots of different ways of winning.
Cullen Eddy touched on it on Friday. We had the explosive last period on Wednesday and the superb start last night. But then we've also had to grind results out - we saw the game out well yesterday, and today's game was a tough slog that needed a lot of hard work to get anything out of. It was the sort of game we'd have caved in last season.

3. Cullen can go.
No, not leave. He's not allowed to do that. Gordie Howe hat trick for him tonight. Assist on the first, scored the GWG, and put Turcotte in his place at the end. Also, a casual reminder that he was playing out of position tonight. Cracking shift, lad.

4. Colton Fretter has a nasty side?
Yeah, okay. A few years ago, that would have been 2 minutes for boarding. Nowadays, you can't do that. If it takes a 5+game, and maybe something more, to enforce that you can't get away with nasty hits like that (and it was nasty, and unnecessary too), so be it. Shame it took one of our boys to make it. Also, DoPS, 2 games for that Matt Myers hit? Come on now.

5. That is what a rivalry looks like.
The fans don't like each other. The players clearly don't like each other. It's come pretty naturally. That is a rivalry. Not a manufactured one. Love it.

Come on then, why am I wrong this week?
