SIHA - Senators Go Wild In Widnes

Ice & Slice reports from the Senators' trip to Widnes.

It was a pleasure to travel with Sheffield Senators to witness anther solid team performance as they overcame a spirited Widnes Wild team 8-1.

Widnes edged the first half of the first period but Senators eventually gained the upper hand to go into the break 2-0 up after making their chances count whereas Wild were guilty of failing to make the most of theirs. Nathan Britton fired in the first goals with a cracker of a shot from Tom Humphries for the second.

Sens had the better of the second period but lost their shape and discipline to see Widnes finish the period the stronger team for which they deserve credit for but at 6-0 down it was always going to be a tall order. Josh Gent scored a nice unassisted goal which shocked Wild who were then caught napping when two more goals from Nathan Britton. Tom Humphries made it 6-0 in a spell that yielded 4 goals in just under three minutes. Wild's efforts were rewarded with a Filip Supa powerplay goal but with just 9 seconds left of the period Senators broke away with Josh Gent finding Nathan Britton to add his 4th of the night.

Despite being 7-1 up Senators were pushed all the way in the final period and had some fine chances to reduce the deficit but couldn't get past an in form Mark Hartley in a game that had become a bit stop & start due to some strange calls on both teams Senators held firm and finished of a great all round team performance when Arran Bell fired in a rare goal to make the final score Widnes Wild 1 Senators 8 with Jonny Bell awarded the Man of the Match beers.

The disappointment of missing out a KFC by just 3 minutes was countered by the news of Steelhawks 18's A 6-1 win over Telford 18's with what was, or according to my messages, a good performance...happy days!
