Part two of the weekends clash with Cardiff meant this time we faced them in the Big Blue Tent, Cardiff has Hudson and Hendrikx missing and Sheffield were still without Dowd and Morency but it was the home side who was looking for revenge after the defeat in Sheffield 24 hours earlier and it was the Devils who started the better of the team and really controlled a large portion of the game as Doyle was very busy earlier on but Sheffield did create offence of their own but Bowns would stand in their way, the game like the night before was physical as Devils were throwing in a lot of hits and Sheffield didn’t seem to want to throw hits but there was a coming together between Haddad and Latulippe early on as the Steelers forward avoided a hit of Haddad and Devils man didn’t like the fact Latulippe moved but on 7:02 Cardiff would have a power play attempt and it would work a treat as Doug Clarkson had possession of the puck in the Sheffield zone before throwing the puck in front of goal for Brent Walton to snipe a one timer past Doyle for 1-0 lead. Sheffield couldn’t re-organise themselves after that and Cardiff came straight back at the visitors and made them pay on 8:36 just 38 seconds since the first goal when Batch showed great persistence to start the attack the Devils as Morissette tucked one under the arm of Doyle from the right hand circle for 2-0 score line assisted by Martin and Lord. So a terrible couple of minutes left Sheffield with a lot of work to do and didn’t make thing easier for themselves on the Powerplay after a poor turnover let in Joey Martin on the breakaway but he couldn’t make it 3-0 and saw his shot saved by Frank Doyle and it wouldn’t be his first breakaway but still wouldn’t be able to score his second but Sheffield were finding ways to attack through Roy, Fretter and Mosienko but Bowns was in fantastic form to turn their shots away but Sheffield were definitely having an off night so far went into the break 2-0 down with a lot of work to do in the 2nd.
End of the 1st Period: Cardiff Devils 2–0 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Devils 8–9 Steelers

Second period got underway and Gerad Adams had tried shifting his lines about after they seemed to be ineffective in the first period Steelers were also playing another man down as Sarich wouldn’t Ice for the remainder of the game for a reason that I can only guess is injured related but nothing was announced by the Steelers but Mosienko would be called early on for tripping which was a penalty he didn’t need to take as he was offside anyway but on 23:14 Richardson was passed the puck at the back door and he nicely slotted the puck under the pads of Doyle to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Almost straight away Cardiff was again on the PP which was unfortunate as it should have most probably gone the other way. Sheffield would kill the penalty but the game could have been out of sight for Sheffield if it wasn’t for Frank Doyle who made some massive saves to try and keep his team in this and Sheffield were starting to come into this game as first Hay saw his shot blocked before Bowns had deny both Roy and O’Connor in the dying seconds of the period but Cardiff were taking a very comfortable 3 goal lead into the third period.
End of the 2nd Period: Cardiff Devils 3–0 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Devils 9–8 Steelers

Sheffield came into the third period needing a big final twenty minutes to have any chance of getting back into this game and Steelers started in the right fashion as Roy, Latulippe and Eddy all saw their shots saved but Sheffield finally get themselves on the board after great work by Fretter he forced a pad save out of Bowns which then allowed Mosienko to shoot in the rebound to bring the Steelers within two goals on 44:12. Cardiff would have another 5 on 3 chance but some fantastic penalty killing by the Steelers left the visitors in with a chance in this game but with Sheffield pressing well penalties were coming from an incident including Forney and Roy which isn’t good to have your top two point scorers in the penalty box when your trailing but on 51:23 and even handed Devils were looking for another goal and they eventually found it when Steelers failed to clear the zone Tyson Marsh had the puck on his stick on the blue line before shooting on goal through traffic and Brent Walton got a tip on it to score his second of the game and put it through the five hole of Doyle to restore the 3 goal lead but it didn’t the Steelers long to strike back after a fantastic shift by Ben O’Connor he played the puck from the right of goal on the boards to Hewitt at the back door who fired a one timer past Bowns at 52:37 to bring the Steelers back within two goals. Cardiff would have another 5 on 3 power play after poor discipline by the Steelers was costing them tonight but nothing would come of it and Sheffield would continue to press high and Frank Doyle was pulled at 58:46, but with an empty net to shoot at and shorthanded Jake Morissette found himself all alone on the breakaway after Sheffield failed to keep it in the zone and the Devils forward slotted into the empty net to give Cardiff the 5-2 victory which was Sheffield’s first league defeat of the season.
Shots on Goal: Devils 9–12 Steelers
