Midweek hockey would get underway at Ice Sheffield as Steelers would take on Edinburgh in league action but it would be Capitals that would attack first as a dumped puck was caught by Portwood who managed to turn but saw the puck covered by Doyle before he got a shot away but that would be it for Capitals offensively for a good while after Edinburgh killed an early powerplay Sheffield took the lead on 5:43 as Darrell hay fired a shot from the blue line only for Fretter to pick up the rebound and forcing Hiadlovsky to make a move before slotting the puck into the back of the net for 1-0 and in the very next attack it was 2-0 on 7:07 after Sarich finished off a promising attacking move by the Steelers by nicely firing his wrist shot past Hiadlovsky and it looked like it could be rout tonight by Tomas Hiadlovsky was in outstanding form and was keeping Edinburgh in the game but it wasn’t just the Capitals netminder performing heroics as Jay King jumped out of the penalty box to find himself on the breakaway but Doyle skated out to play the puck out himself and soon after Callum Boyd showed some great skating ability to skate into the Sheffield zone beating several Steelers defenceman before forcing a great body save out of the Sheffield netminder, Sarich and O’Connor would have the better of further opportunities in the period and Dennis Rix and Greg Collins would both see their scoring chances thwarted by Doyle and Sheffield would take a 2-0 lead into the break.
End of the 1st Period: Sheffield Steelers 2–0 Edinburgh Capitals
Shots on Goal: Steelers 22-4 Capitals

Second period got underway and Sheffield fans didn’t know what to expect as second period didn’t seem to be our speciality at the moment but Edinburgh found themselves on an early man advantage and forced some good pressure but ultimately didn’t get enough shots on Doyle and Sheffield would ultimately kill the penalty and end up on their own man advantage as Latulippe missed a great opportunity on any other night could have had several goals as Hiadlovsky caught the shot of the Steelers forward from point blank range and also linked up well with his team mates almost setting up Sarich and Mosienko who both saw their shots saved by Hiadlovsky. On 34:39 Sheffield let Edinburgh back into the game when Jade Portwood got the Caps on the board assisted by Collins and Naslund to bring the Scottish team within one goal but it wouldn’t last for long when at 37:01 some fantastic work by Phillips allowed him to square the puck to Mosienko who had the entire goal to aim at and finished it off with ease, In the next attack some great 1-2 work by Sheffield resulting in Fretter firing one against the post as the net was knocked of its moorings but Edinburgh found themselves back in the game on 38:55 after Rene Jarolin scored of his own rebound off Doyle to shoot into a wide open goal but goals were going in for fun at the moment and it was Sheffield’s turn again as Ben O’Connor skated his own way into the Edinburgh zone and played a backhanded pass to Forney in front of goal who fired a one timer over the shoulder of Hiadlovsky at 39:43 to take the Steelers 4-2 up at the second interval.
End of the 2nd Period: Sheffield Steelers 4–2 Edinburgh Capitals
Shots on Goal: Steelers 14–11 Capitals

The final 20 of the game got underway and Edinburgh knew they had to conjure something up or they’d be going home empty handed Capitals would successfully kill an early power play of the Steelers but shortly after they returned to full strength Sheffield finally broke through again on 44:40 when Roy found himself in possession of the puck behind the goal he played to Fretter in between the circles who fired a rocket of a wrist shot past Hiadlovsky into the top of the goal for 5-2 lead. There would be a coming together between Hewitt and Collins of the puck and as both skated back to their respective benches Riley Emmerson went for Hewitt and would receive 2+10 misconduct for his actions. Sheffield were controlling a lot of the puck but it doesn’t always go without mistakes as Edinburgh had further power plays and almost pulled another goal back But Doyle was fantastic as Capitals through several shots on goal and also denied Collins on a breakaway which was probably their best opportunity of the 3rd period but with the clock ticking down Sheffield had one final power play as Petran was called for hooking, Sheffield were causing some pressure circling well around the Caps zone and on 57:03 Sheffield scored their 6th and the final goal of the game and Roy was attempted to shoot a backhand past Hiadlovsky from just in front but Fretter was able to pick the puck up and shoot from the right hand goal to give the Steelers a 6-2 win and his first hat-trick of the season.
Shots on Goal: Steelers 19–6 Capitals
