The first period was one that left a lot to be desired really. Yeah we ended it even, but I feel like the Panthers certainly edged the period. Their goal was a typical David Clarke goal, and we just couldn't stop it. Somehow, the guy seems to ALWAYS be there when they need it the most. That all being said, the Forney goal was very similar to that one too! Battle in the corner with Forney being left all alone in front of goal to hit it home.
The period got chippy at times, which got me angry too! Which believe it or not, isn't a regular occasion during games. Jacina seemed to do the job he was given, and very effectively at that, just laughing in the face of our players while they were getting just as irate as us in the stands.
Last point for Period 1.. HOW DOES HICKS DISALLOW THAT GOAL. Yeah I know I am a bit biased when it comes to this decision, but how does Michael Hicks see that being "kicked in" from 40 yards away. He was in no position to declare that a kick in and I was astonished he even tried. Even the replay, it's hard to tell on most camera angles, never mind the angle and distance he was stood at.

The second period though, we turned up the heat. The game got more chippy, few handbags here and there. Mix ups featuring Kohn and Robinson, Eddy and Parent all pushing and mouthing, but no 5 minute majors were wanted by either party of those. GOOD GOAL from Colton Fretter though, as calm as the Caribbean seafront, makes Kowalski feel a little silly. What could better than a one goal lead? A two goal lead! Another Powerplay goal, this time from a lovely tip in front from Mathieu Roy, nice work passing it around from the PP unit too.
It was nowhere near over though, of course in true Steelers style, we wanted to make it hard for ourselves, we let a carbon copy of the first goal, happen again. David Clarke trademark wrister and we were suddenly biting our nails. With Kowlaski pulled now, the arena is filled with "shoot" chants every time we get the puck, and Mosienko finishes it, from his own zone, he chips it high so a Panther can;t get hold of it, and it floats in. Steelers win 4-2.
For me, the man of the match should have been Mosienko. Played absolutely sublime all night. His work ethic is incredible and he certainly is a man with a point to prove. Roy is a deserving winner of the MOM though, I do hasten to add.
What did I take from the game?
- Colton Fretter is VERY calm and VERY good.
- Greg Jacina does his job effectively, and however much you dislike him, he's one of those players you wouldn't mind in your colours.
- Mike Forney. No more words, just Mike Forney.
- Our Powerplay struggled to begin with, but salvaged itself with the 2 goals it got, I feel a bit of work is still to be done on that front.
- The better team on the night, won.
