Elite Report - Week 2 Preview (Part One)

It's week two of the new season and the start of it for some teams. Nottingham for example have a Scottish triple header. Let's now have a look ahead to that and the other games being played this weekend.

Friday 9 September 2016: Dundee Stars v Nottingham Panthers (EIHL)

The first game of the weekend is actually tonight, Friday night, and it happens in Tayside as Dundee take on the Panthers. Both sides have decent rosters, Furby has certainly done a lot of hard work in recruiting his Stars side whilst Neilson has quite gone about his business. Promises to be an interesting game which could go either way.

Verdict: Panthers to win after overtime.

Saturday 10 September 2016: Braehead Clan v Nottingham Panthers (EIHL)

The second of Panthers three games in Scotland, this time against their "sister" club. Braehead suffered an opening weekend loss against Fife but will be keen as mustard to get something against the Panthers. They always seem to raise their game in Braehead against them. Again like the previous night, this could be a game that could go either way such is the depth of both rosters.

Verdict: Panthers regulation win.

Belfast Giants v Fife Flyers (CC)

Fife are going to be buzzing for this one, having picked up maximum points last weekend. For Giants, they need to show what they are capable of otherwise we can expect a rant from Mr Walser maybe. Flyers seldom do not travel well to Belfast and sadly I expect this trend to continue. Giants should more than enough to see off their plucky visitors.

Verdict: Belfast regulation win.

Manchester Storm v Cardiff Devils  (CC)

Buoyed with confidence after running the current Elite League champions close on Sunday evening, Storm host Cardiff in the Storm Shelter. It is going to be a tough ask against a Cardiff roster that just exudes ability and depth in every pore. Will Patrick Bordeleau make his debut, or will Lord resist it for 24 hours? Storm will again give a good go but Devils seemingly have too much in hand for me.

Verdict: Cardiff regulation win.

Part two, which will feature Sunday's games, is coming next...
