From The Editor's Chair: Edition 7

Well hello there! Are we still enjoying second helping of that four point weekend cake we started on? It's tasting very nice indeed, and if there are more portions to come then we will welcome them with open arms. Time to see what's occupying my mind this week after the 6th week of action this season.

Remember, in case you still forgot, these are my opinions and not that of our hockey club. Got that? Right let's start then.

  • Greasy wins: Any hockey fan with half a brain will tell you that to be successful you have to be prepared to take a win the hard and greasy way. It happens in the NHL, and it happens worldwide too. That's what the boys did on Friday in Braehead. They got the greasy win. Might not be the most polished of performances but we got the job and a couple of important points: and in regulation. Who knows how important it might become at the end of March 2017?
  • Moose: A few had a few doubts about Moose's start to the season, but me being the optimistic Steeler that I am - well I thought the other way. Good goalies do not become terrible just like that. They need a defence perfoming in front of them and if that defence feels confident then the goalie does. He had a stellar performance against the Giants, was unlucky not to get the Man of the Match award too. Wouldn't swap him for any import goalie and that includes Wiikman.
  • More injuries: Might only be mid October but we're going to go through a lot of this month and who knows how longer without two important players: Nelson and O'Connor. The former is our wrecking ball second line left wing and the latter is probably the best offensive Brit D of the EIHL era. How do we replace them? Well obviously Thommo (and Jerry) will be looking at both Liam and Cole - just don't tweak it too much. Hope the boys are back soon and healthy.
  • Hicks: Sunday night and we got a change of referee. It was supposed to be Tom Pering but we ended up with Mr CH Sports of Caerdydd. Whilst he was still as baffling as ever, one thing that struck me early doors - he looks positively slimmer than I've ever seen him before. I really thought I was imagining things, and was set to go back to Specsavers (people believe I should still do so). New regime Hicksy? Fair play if so, bet KFC missed your usual order though haha.
  • More than just a hockey club: The thing about hockey clubs, regardless of whoever it is, is that they are indeed a massive "family". More than you can say for football where you have the Manchester United's and then the Hartlepool United's whom the big clubs couldn't give a hoot about. But what Steelers did for young Belfast fan Blake McCaughey certainly shows why hockey teams are streets ahead. It certainly made me proud of my club, and tugged at those heartstrings.

That's my opinions, anything you would like to bring up following on from them? Well see below on how you can respond back. I'll be back next week with more observations.
