Big Match Preview - Another huge one

With just two weeks of the regular season to go, we all know in our heart of hearts that we ain't gonna create history. Even Thommo and Jerry know so. The destination of the Monteith Bowl could be decided this weekend and we have ironically have a massive say in it. Who would have thought that?

On St. Patrick's Night, we ironically face this team in our penultimate away regulation season game:

This game could have implications both us and the Giants. A regulation win for the Giants will secure second place in the standings and keep their title dream alive. It would also mean we would finish third overall. Giants winning in overtime or on a shootout makes the possibility of a second place finish that much bit harder for us as we would need to win out and Giants to lose their last three in regulation. Considering one of those is against the unpredictable Coventry, who knows. A Steelers win in regulation would put us a point behind Derrick Walser's team and make Saturday interesting. Us winning in overtime or a shootout has the same effect. With us virtually out of the reckoning, it will be intriguing how Thompson and Andersson approach the game tactically.

Saturday night, and we have another match up with this here bunch:

For the third time in just 13 days, we play Andrew Lord's Cardiff Devils. Depending on what we get in the "O" then Devils have another possible shot at getting "Monty" handed to them on our ice. That will be very painful to witness if it did happen. Having ruined their potential plans just six days previously, one can expect the Devils will be very much smarting from that 6-2 loss. However, what that loss did show is that we are more than a match for them if we turn in a solid 60 minute performance regardless who is in between the pipes for the Welsh team. Come Saturday night, Cardiff could be celebrating a first league title for 20 years or we will be a bit closer to second place. Nobody can tell.

So what about the predictions? I'm going for a 4-2 win for the Giants on Friday, and us to bounce back with a 4-3 win (don't care how, just a win will do) against the Devils on the Saturday. That will leave them sweating that little bit longer. Nothing wrong with that is there?
